My Book Club: 4 Books I’m Loving this Month
For the month of October, these are the books I’ll be reading.
With October being the month of Halloween, I love spending my evenings with a good book, which is generally based on the genre of a crime thriller, supernatural, mystery or horror. I mean it is the spooky month of Halloween after all.
So this month, I’ll be tackling these four amazing books, which aren’t exactly new to print, but they sound fabulous and I can’t wait to start. Of course, trying to achieve reading four books in one month is a massive challenge, but I’ll try LOL.
WHITE HORSE by Alex Adams:
This story takes a zombie apocalypse to a whole new level when a lethal virus from the CDC (Centre for Disease Control) mutates and creates a violent outbreak across the globe. The novel follows the central character Zoe as she navigates her way through a terrain occupied by infected and those who who are not infected but lacking human decency and morals.
Critics say there are a variety of twists and turns in the plot, which all lead to an incredibly unpredicted ending. I’m excited to read this book, as I a massive fan of apocalyptic stories. No, I’m not a doomsday prepper LOL!
THE HISTORIAN by Elizabeth Kostova:
It just isn’t Halloween without a good vampire story. This vampire story is a little different to your generalised Dracula stories though. Set in modern-day Europe where a young woman discovers and explores the true history of her father’s historian career, which ultimately lead to her own mother’s demise. The book travels from the exotic locations of Budapest and Istanbul and has a suspenseful tone throughout.
Being a fan of Dracula, this book appealed to me, as the writer has created a newly adapted account of the legend of Dracula and how his story will affect and influence many for years to come.
MAYHEM by Sarah Pinborough:
From a young age, I have always been fascinated (and horrified) by the mixers of Jack the Ripper. Having taken the tour in Whitechapel myself and reading a plethora of historical texts on the murders and the officers who investigated the crimes, both then and even today, I was immediately interested in this book.
The story is set throughout the dark times of London, England, when Jack the Ripper was roaming the streets of Whitechapel. Dr Bond, the central character of the piece, is dragged down the rabbit hole of mayhem, murder, mystery and horror, as he finds himself entwined with the murders as he investigates the man of the monster beyond the horrific crimes. Exciting.
ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND by Gena Showalter:
I’ve been a fan of Gena’s books for a while now and to be honest this book sounded more like a fun read, than a serious one. I’ve seen the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which I found incredibly entertaining, though many would argue it was an insult to Jane Austin. So, when I saw this book, I just had to see what it was like.
Would it be an insult to the famous Wonderland story, or would it be another funny antidote to a famous tale? I’m excited to have a bit of a laugh at a satirical horror story, considering all the other texts I have chosen are fairly serious in the genre.
What are some of your favourite books right now? I’d love to hear what they are.
