Any Easy DIY Face Scrub

Do you scrub enough? Exfoliation to the face is key to obtaining youthful, glowing and healthy skin.

Did you know that many of the foods you eat can easily be made into a DIY face scrub? Foods like oatmeal, sugar and yoghurt can all be used to treat skin concerns, clear away dead skin cells and help heal blemishes too.

Whenย done correctly, exfoliating your skin with a facial scrub can help with the following:

  • Smoother skin.ย Exfoliators help to get rid of dead skin cells that your body hasnโ€™t fully shed yet. This can help give you a smoother, brighter, more even complexion.
  • Improved circulation.ย Stimulating the surface of your skin can boost blood flow which, in turn, may also help give your skin a healthier glow.ย
  • Better absorption.ย By removing a buildup of dead skin cells and other debris, your skin is able to absorb other products more effectively.
  • Unclogged pores.ย Facial exfoliation can remove dead skin cells and oils that would otherwise clog your pores and lead to breakouts.ย

It is important to note with DIY face scrubs, that you should try an avoid ingredients like raw sugar and coffee grounds.

Yes, I know… ‘but everyone is using coffee grounds’ you say. Here’s the thing, coffee grounds used in your cosmetic grade beauty products has been refined to ensure it doesn’t damage skin cells, by scratching at the skin harshly.

If you do happen to have a blender which will break down already ground coffee to refine it and make the texture smoother and more consistent, then by all means, you can use coffee grounds. Same goes for raw sugar.

However, if you have no means of smoothening those two ingredients, then you can replace the coffee grounds with coconut sugar and the raw sugar with brown sugar instead.

And if you’d like to add a safe chemical component to your mask for a deeper exfoliation, you can safely add any of the following ingredients:

  • milk and yogurt, which contain lactic acid
  • apples, which containย malic acid
  • pineapple, a rich source ofย vitamin Cย and citric acid
  • mangoes, a rich source ofย vitamin A

I have oily skin, so I love using masks which combat and control excess oil (called sebum) and help to nourish and protect skin also.

Check out this easy DIY mask which is not only suited to oily skin types, but will also help with all skin types to boost hydration and make skin glow:

Banana Oatmeal Scrub

Bananas contain nutrients like potassium, vitamin C, and traces of vitamin A. They also contain silica, a mineral element and relative of silicone, which can help boost collagen production in your skin.

This scrub is well-suited for oily skin.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 tbsp. finely ground oatmeal
  • 1 tbsp. organic plain Greek yogurt

Directions

  1. Smash the banana with a fork until itโ€™s smooth but not runny.
  2. Grind oats in a food processor to a fine powder.
  3. Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  4. Apply to the skin in circular motions for 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Rinse the scrub clean.
  6. Spoon any leftover mixture into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

This is a safe mask to use at least two to three times a week.
