Have you heard about Bare Island Fort at Botany Bay?

This week we’re exploring the spectacular Bare Island Fort at Botany Bay.

Keeping with the theme of affordable (and free) things to do, see and experience in Sydney, I wanted to share a unique south Sydney gem at La Perouse.

La Perouse is located on the northern headland of Botany Bay, south of Sydney city. Mostly known for its military outpost; which sits on the water and connected by a long jetty to the mainland, it’s also known for the surrounding national park area called Kamay Botany Bay National; which is enjoyed by many locals as a picnic hot-spot. Surrounded by blue waters, nearby Congwong Bay Beach, Little Congwong Beach and Frenchmans Bay are all popular swimming joints, as the waters are fairly protected by reef.

As the weather starts to slowly warm again in Sydney; from yet another VERY short winter, places like La Perouse are the perfect locations for anyone seeking time out, but don’t want to travel too far, or don’t have a lot of money to spend, because it’s all free. Unless you want to ice-cream from the local van or prefer a paid tour of Bare Island Fort. Otherwise the Fort is free to explore on the outside. And if you take your own food, there are plenty of brilliant spots to sit and eat whilst soaking up some vitamin D.
